Another experiment about surface tension or water's skin, similar effect to the previous 'Bye Bye Pepper' experiment.
Materials:
1. A small bowl
2. Milk
3. Food dye in different colours
4. Dishwashing liquid
5. Cocktail stick or toothpick
Instruction:
1. Half-filled shallow bowl of milk.
2. Carefully drop two or three drops of food dye in different places.
3. Dip a cocktail stick in washing-up liquid then touch the milk with it. See what happens?
Explanation:
Washing-up liquid reduces surface tension. This allows the particles of water at the surface to spread out, starting where the washing-up liquid was added. As they spread they push the food dyes and spread out and merge together to create a patterns.
